1947 – 1959

Minnesota - 1949

During the summer of 1949, mom and dad took me on my first trip to Minnesota to meet Grandpa and Grandma Running on their farm in Littlefork, Minnesota.

Minnesota - 1955

In 1955 dad purchased a two toned brand new Chevrolet Bel Air to make a summer pilgrimage to Minnesota to see the Running relatives. We set out around the first of July making the overland journey to Littlefork. Mary was five and I was seven. We stayed on the Running farm and visited the Farmer cousins and Uncle Harold and Aunt Sadie.

Ne w York, Minnesota, Montana, Utah - 1959

In 1959, General Motors came out with the most amazing selection of new cars. Dad took us to a preview of the Chevrolets at the Chevy dealership in Alhambra. I went nuts for the new sleek designs. I began a campaign begging dad to but a new car. He relented and in the summer of 1959 we took off for our cross-country adventure to Angola, New York to visit Aunt Lillian and her family. Then we drove to Littlefork, Minnesota to visit the relatives there. Then onwad to Glacier National Park to visit cousin Harold Running. We then drove down to Salt Lake City to visit Mom’s Langford cousins there. We were gone a month!
